It’s important to recognize the warning signs to know when to get your brakes tested. If you notice that the vehicle takes longer to come to a complete stop, then that can be a clear sign. As you slow down, you may also feel that the car shakes more or that there’s an unpleasant screeching sound. Worn down brake pads can cause these symptoms thanks to their uneven nature. After you’ve parked the car, you can perform a visual inspection of the brake pads through the spokes of the wheels. New brake pads are typically half an inch thick, so if they appear to be significantly smaller than that, then that can be an issue. If a brake line has cracked, then that could lead to a pool of brightly colored liquid forming beneath the car, so keep an eye out for that. 

Brake Test

If possible, they’ll start with a quick test drive to get a feel for how they respond. Brake pads tend to be the most common issue, since they’re designed to endure the most stress when you travel down Route 2 and beyond. These are pressed into the rotors of the wheels and the friction is what slows the vehicle down, but that same action is what erodes the pads over time. Once they remove the wheels, they can get a better look at the pads as well as any accompanying machinery to see if there are any issues there. Should the issue be a fluid leak, they’ll take care to find where exactly it emanates from.

Replacement Process
